Eximious Flying Club is the oldest continuously-operating Club in SE Michigan, having been founded in 1958. The Club has a three-tier aircraft fleet: a Flight Design CTLS primarily for lower-time and student pilots; a very well-equipped Archer II, for more advanced flying; and a Commander 114 in the complex/high-performance category. Eximious is the only Club in the world known to have a Commander 114 and this beautiful aircraft is our flagship. All planes have ADS-B in/out and autopilots; the CTLS has an airframe parachute installation. The Archer and Commander are fully equipped for instrument flight, and the Archer serves as the trainer for those seeking an instrument rating.
The Club has hangars at three local airports: Detroit City (KDET); Oakland-Troy (KVLL); and Ray Community (57D). The Ray location was chosen in part because it is the center of EAA activity in the region and also serves a growing part of the Metro area. Planes are shifted periodically among these locations to insure balanced Member access. As of February 2021 the CTLS is at DET, the Archer at 57D, and the Commander is at VLL. The Club is very self-contained, with Member CFI/CFII instructors and a Member A&P/IA. The Club Safety officer is a 19,000 hour airline line-check Captain.
