Experience flying at its most affordable!
Membership is open to certificated pilots interested in non-commercial flying for fun and sharing their flying experiences. There is no minimum flight experience required.
Saratoga Flyers, Inc. is a New York state not-for-profit corporation with a 501(c)(7) tax exempt status. The Club is managed by a five-member board with participation from all members. We meet monthly, and plan periodic breakfast meetings, an annual dinner meeting, as well as a summer group outing.
Our website (www.SaratogaFlyers.org) has most of the basic information about membership. Membership is open to certificated pilots (recreational or higher). The Club is limited (& fixed) to 15 members.
The Club plane is a 1976 Cessna 172M, which is hangared at Saratoga County airport (5B2). It is equipped with a Garmin 430W GPS & Nav/Com, Garmin GTX-345 Transponder with ADS-B In + Out, 406 MHz ELT, dual VOR receivers, standby vacuum system, ILS marker beacons/glide slope, and 4 position intercom.
The engine & prop were overhauled in August 2009, and the interior was redone in November 2010. We change the oil every 50 hrs or so and have an oil analysis done each time to keep tabs on the health of the engine.
Dues are $70/month and flight time is $45/hr plus a fuel surcharge based on the current hourly cost for fuel. (We typically experience 7+/- gph.) To encourage members to fly regularly each member is assessed one hour of (dry) flying time each month in addition to dues. (Those hours, however, can be banked up to a total of six hours of flight time.)
We use an on-line calendar to book the plane, and even with 15 members, our schedules are varied enough that there is plenty of opportunity to fly.
