AOPA members, it's time to reach out. If you know someone who really wants to learn to fly, bring them with you to AOPA's Fifteenth Annual Fly-In and Open House on Saturday, June 4. We'll have special activities designed for them. And you get a free AOPA mini-MagLite just for bringing a prospective pilot.

As part of AOPA's Project Pilot initiative, 10 lucky would-be student pilots will win free introductory flights at their local flight schools. And when they attend one of our three informational sessions, "How to Start Learning to Fly" (at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.), you as a pilot will be entered to win one of two headsets, a Lightspeed Thirty 3G or a Pilot USA 17-61, thanks to the respective companies. ( See official rules.)

Flight instructors know how important first experiences can be. To start would-be pilots off on the right foot, AOPA will provide a host of fun activities to stimulate the senses. The three 60-minute seminars will be about how to get started in aviation, the overall training process, what it's like to fly, and the value of learning to fly, among other topics. Attendees will receive a gift bag filled with valuable information on learning to fly.

In a more hands-on approach, the Frederick Flight Center will allow would-be pilots to sit in the cockpit of a Cessna 172. Staffed by a flight instructor from the school and AOPA employees, people will have the opportunity to ask questions. Either inside the cockpit or next to the airplane, would-be pilots can have their photos taken for a cameo appearance on the cover of AOPA Flight Training magazine. Free!

There are other great prizes as well, such as AOPA duffle bags with AOPA gear inside. And Sporty's Pilot Shop has donated 100 copies of its first DVD in a series of new interactive flight training materials.

The AOPA Fly-In and Open House runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
