State to extend tax exemptions to small GA aircraft

State to extend tax exemptions to small GA aircraft

Connecticut Gov. Jodi Rell has signed into law legislation that will save aircraft owners money while keeping the state on a more competitive level regarding aircraft repair services. Beginning July 1, the law extends existing sales and use tax exemptions for aircraft repair or replacement parts and existing sales tax exemptions on aircraft repair services to all types of aircraft. Currently, only air carriers or aircraft weighing 6,000 pounds or more are eligible to take advantage of the exemptions. AOPA Northeast Regional Representative Craig Dotlo joined others in the Connecticut aviation community, like avionics repair shop owner Barbara Rowley, to give the legislation momentum. Connecticut follows several other states (Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, and Oklahoma) that recently allowed similar extensions to their residents in response to revenue losses from border states. Sens. Billy Ciotto and Eileen Daily, as well as Reps. Tony Guerrera and Cam Staples, helped see the bill through.
