Chandy Clanton dies during aerobatic practice

Airshow performer and three-time member of the U.S. Aerobatic Team Chandy Clanton was killed in the crash of her Edge 540 while practicing her airshow routine. The crash of the Lincoln, Neb., resident took place near Tarkio, Mo., while preparing for the Wing Nuts Flying Circus Fly-In near Tarkio in northwest Missouri.

Clanton’s father, Harry Barr, talked about her life recently with his local television station. In 2003 she was chosen for the Stars of Tomorrow young airshow performers training program. She performed for the Oshkosh crowd under that program.

She was the mother of two boys, ages 10 and 7, and was vice chair of the Bank Iowa Corp. co-founded by Barr. Barr told Radio Iowa that video was taken of the accident and that the routine she was practicing was the same one she has done many times. Barr taught his daughter to fly.
