The FAA, in a proposal that AOPA supports as an expansion of efficient routing for general aviation traffic, has issued a notice of proposed rulemaking to extend RNAV T-route T-288 westward from the Rapid City, S.D., VOR to the Gillette, Wyo. VOR. The proposed extension would improve efficiency and safety in the area by augmenting the available VOR network, and reducing the miles flown between the two navaids.
The new T-route would be available at altitudes down to 6,000 lower than the existing Victor airways, providing efficiency and increased safety during times of potential icing.
AOPA has long advocated for the expanded use of T-routes, particularly in congested terminal areas, to assist general aviation aircraft in efficiently navigating the National Airspace System, and continues to urge expansion of the T-route network. AOPA appreciates and supports this important step towards that initiative, as noted in the association’s formal comments, submitted Dec. 12.
