As the world of Apple iPad applications for aviation becomes more mature, deals are being struck between developers that make the situation much more complex. Recently AvConnect and WingX maker Hilton Software announced a partnership aimed to bring a seamless experience to users of both companies’ applications.
The deal, which technically brings AvConnect into the WingX fold, will allow better data for AvConnect users and a value-added service for current WingX subscribers. Representatives at AvConnect, which tracks and stores flight data for later analysis in its current application, found that users would access the application during pre- and post-flight analysis, but not while en route. By tying AvConnect to WingX, users have a reason to keep the program running the entire flight, giving pilots and owners much more complete and useful flight data.
According to the folks at AvConnect, users open WingX, make sure their AvConnect account is associated, and then the program automatically stores the data. Owners with a Garmin G1000 or, in the future, the Aspen Connected Panel won’t need to use this capability as it’s already built in.
When in use, the application will capture pretty much every piece of data, including flight path, speed, altitude, and more.
