Summer barnstorming: Where will AOPA show up next?

Now, more than ever, AOPA is reaching out to members at the state level. With seven regional managers assigned throughout the country, the association is reaching out to members during airshow and fly-in events, and aviation conferences.

AOPA Central Southwest Regional Manager Yasmina Platt spoke during the Kansas Association of Airports conference June 21 about the state of aviation and AOPA’s efforts to help get more pilots in the air with the Keep ‘em Flying initiative. One major part of the initiative is the AOPA/EAA petition for medical exemption that would allow pilot self-certify their fitness for flight and use a driver’s license in lieu of a medical to fly certain aircraft recreationally during day-VFR conditions.

Platt and AOPA Vice President of Airport Advocacy Bill Dunn hosted a Pilot Mix and Mingle at Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport where 35 aviation enthusiasts learned about the association’s initiatives and met fellow pilots to increase their network of friends.

Pilot Mix and Mingle events will be popping up across the country this summer as AOPA reaches out to more pilots at the state and local levels, so watch for email invitations for one in your area.
