AOPA is urging members to review and submit comments by Nov. 2 on a request by the Air Force to establish a temporary military operations area (TMOA) in New Mexico that could impede the use of several Victor airways and a T-route.
The FAA is soliciting public comment on the proposed Playas Temporary Military Operations Area (TMOA) that would be active in support of Exercise Angel Thunder from April 7, 2013, to April 20, 2013.
The TMOA would be in effect continuously through the active period, in airspace from 300 feet agl to, but not including, Flight Level 180.
As proposed, the TMOA would render V66, V16, and V198, and T-306 unusable for IFR operations during the period, causing pilots to circumnavigate and seek less efficient routings. Previous activation of the Playas TMOA raised similar issues in the expansive area covered by the proposal.
AOPA urges members to submit comments to the FAA by Nov. 2 on the impact the TMOA would have on their flight operations.
