Noting that helicopter flight instructors frequently have to “make do” with training materials designed for fixed-wing CFIs, King Schools co-chairman John King announced that his company is providing the first ever dedicated helicopter flight instructor refresher course online.
Like other versions of the King FIRC, the helicopter course will focus on scenario-based training and risk management, showing the CFIs how to teach risk management to their students. The $99 FIRC is expected to be online by late July; for an extra $25 the company will file the CFI’s credentials online with the FAA, avoiding paperwork delays and complexities.
The course is the same price as the King fixed-wing FIRC launched in May 2012, according to co-chairman Martha King. The FIRC now includes a new scenario-based training module.
King Schools also will be releasing a new airline transport pilot knowledge test prep course online in time to meet the FAA’s Aug. 1 deadline that will require pilots flying for the airlines to hold that certificate and have 1,500 hours of flight time. Like numerous other King courses, the ATP course will be accessible from any computer or Web-enabled handheld or portable device. The system keeps track of student progress and when reopened from any other devices picks up again where the student left off. The course is $299.
