Clarksburg, W.Va., VOR/DME up for decommissioning

The FAA has proposed to decommission the Clarksburg VOR/DME located in Clarksburg, W.Va.

Members are encouraged to submit comments to the FAA on the impact of this proposal on their flight operations as provided below. The navaid was identified for decommissioning, the FAA said, because of “the need to have the surrounding tree area cleared to maintain the obstruction free area of radiating antenna with expected costs of over $100,000,” and because policy now requires that decommissioning must be evaluated for all VOR facilities prior to upgrading or performing major repairs.

Pilots may submit comments to the FAA on the decommissioning proposal by April 19 in writing. For details on the proposal and instructions for submitting comments, download the FAA’s notice.

Please also share your comments with AOPA.
