Exciting new features now available for FlyQ EFB

AOPA FlyQ EFB

AOPA’s new electronic flight bag app for the iPad, FlyQ EFB, has quickly become a top choice with pilots because of its revolutionary mix of simplicity and power. The first version included innovative features such as split-screen, 3-D synthetic vision, wind-optimized flight planning, graphical data downloads, and more. The just-released 1.1 version continues the revolution by adding the single-most requested feature: Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) in-flight weather. Version 1.1 also adds a number of other powerful features and makes a great app even better.

The most common question pilots asked AOPA staff was, “When will you support ADS-B weather?” Version 1.1 delivers ADS-B with support for the new Dual XGPS 170 ADS-B + WAAS GPS receiver. When paired with the Dual Bluetooth ADS-B receiver, FlyQ EFB automatically begins downloading free weather from ADS-B stations around the country. Future releases of FlyQ EFB will support additional ADS-B receivers.

But version 1.1 isn’t just about weather. A number of changes, both significant and subtle, were added to make flying safer and easier:

SmartPlates

FlyQ always made it easy to browse plates using a simple left or right swipe. Now selecting and displaying approach procedures is even better. With the new release, you can:

  • Tap the new Full Screen button to show the procedure using the entire screen even if you're using a split-screen mode.
  • Switch airports by entering a new identifier without leaving the Procedures tab.
  • Use the new List button to select a different plate without going back to the Airports tab.
  • New Lock button on the Procedures tab.

SmartPlan

  • New Direct To and Add to Plan buttons everywhere airports and navaids are listed. For example, double-tap the map and use the new Direct To button to instantly plot a course to a new airport or add a new navaid anywhere in your plan.
  • Automatic flight plan synchronization between the new AOPA FlyQ Web and FlyQ EFB. Plan detailed flights from your desktop or laptop with FlyQ Web and see them automatically appear on your iPad from within FlyQ EFB.
  • New Reverse button on the Plans tab for quickly reversing an existing flight plan.
  • New Map button on the Plans tab that quickly positions and sizes the map to show the entire flight plan.
  • Support for both DTC DUAT and CSC DUATS
  • Convenient car rental options from Enterprise and Alamo

Speed

Faster, smoother mapping system.
