Levil introduces ADS-B, instrument backup systems

The Beacon is a 978-MHz universal access transmitter designed for experimental and light sport aircraft to meet the ADS-B Out requirements. It integrates all essential components inside an antenna-shaped casing that can be mounted on the outside of an aircraft, the company said in a news release.

“The simpler and smarter design makes for a less invasive product, minimizing installation time and cost” for compliance with the mandate to equip with ADS-B Out before Jan. 1, 2020, it said.

The Beacon offers pilots of experimental aircraft an all-in-one solution that eliminates the need to upgrade avionics, “at a lower price than any existing solution in the market today,” Levil Aviation said. The Beacon was scheduled to become available for purchase in late July at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Scheduled to become available in December was the BOM (Broadcasting Outer Module), “an affordable solution that gives pilots the peace of mind they need to be able to safely overcome any instrument malfunction or related emergency,” the company said.

The BOM is an aerodynamic pod that mounts under the wing of the aircraft close to the leading edge for GPS reception and away from propeller backwash. The unit has all components incorporated, “making it a fully independent, completely wireless, all in one avionics device.”

Powered on and off by engine vibration, the self-charging BOM provides a fully independent inertial measurement system, and a source of altitude, position, and flight telemetry, connecting by Wi-Fi to a tablet in the cockpit and capable of displaying data on multiple apps.

The wireless platform offers iOS and Android compatibility.
