Recreational Aviation Foundation opens online auction

The Recreational Aviation Foundation has launched a fundraising auction to bolster the organization’s financial resources for projects to expand pilots’ choices of fun flying destinations. Items in the auction were all donated, so the organization emphasizes that “the Excess Goes To Access.”

Ben and Butch Ryan, who, by themselves, built Ryan Field since moving there in 1967, donated the field near West Glacier, Montana, to the Recreational Aviation Foundation so it could remain an airfield forever and be open to the public. This is just one example of the many backcountry airfields the organization helps protect access to for pilots.

Bidding for the items donated for the Recreational Aviation Foundation’s online “FUNdraising Auction,” which may be previewed on the group's website, will continue until 10 p.m. Mountain time Oct. 10.

Whether you need a fleece-lined beanie or a wool jacket, have been shopping for a GPS, or find irresistible the prospect of getting your tailwheel endorsement at the Wyoming factory where Aviat Husky airplanes are manufactured, the auction includes a range of products and offers to please any pilot.

And more items are being added daily, said the Bozeman, Montana-based organization.

“An impressive group of aviation industry leaders are donating top of-the-line equipment and services so the full value can go toward Recreational Aviation Foundation projects,” it said. Funds raised by the online auction support the organization's mission to preserve, maintain, and create airstrips for recreational access.
