Garmin announces 'reimagined' flight displays
Garmin has unveiled its new TXi family of products that includes three scalable touch-screen flight displays for a wide range of aircraft, and an engine information system that offers a variety of integration possibilities and displays real-time engine indications in an easy-to-read format.
The touch-screen design incorporates modern processors that support improved map and chart rendering, faster panning, and contemporary single-finger zoom and pinch-to-zoom gestures, Garmin said.
The 10.6-inch display can be used as a primary flight display (PFD), multi-function display (MFD), and optional integrated engine information system (EIS). The seven-inch portrait display can be dedicated to any one of those functions, and the seven-inch landscape display is available exclusively as a dedicated EIS solution, Garmin said.
The G500 TXi system was designed for Part 23 Class I/II aircraft weighing less than 6,000 pounds. The G600 TXi flight displays were designed for Class III aircraft weighing up to 12,500 pounds, and the G700 TXi was designed for use in Part 23 Class IV and Part 25 aircraft weighing more than 12,500 pounds.
The integrated or stand-alone EIS is compatible with single- and twin-engine normally aspirated or turbocharged aircraft, and supports Lycoming or Continental four- or six-cylinder engines, “offering a broad range of aircraft compatibility.”
Approval of a supplemental type certificate (STC) for the systems is anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2017, and will cover an approved model list of more than 600 single-engine piston, twin-engine piston, and turboprop aircraft makes and models, Garmin said.
