Continental takes next step toward new Alabama facility

As part of Continental Motors Group’s ongoing effort to modernize its North American operations, the company announced Sept. 11 that it had signed a letter of intent with Stonemont Financial Group and Clayco Inc. to “finance, design, and build” its new Mobile, Alabama, facility estimated at $25 million.

During EAA AirVenture in July, Continental President and CEO Rhett Ross said the company hoped to break ground in October and start construction on the state-of-the-art facility in November. The company seems to be on track, announcing Sept. 11 that it plans to break ground in late 2017.

“This partnership and expansion will forever change Continental Motors to help us develop and bring to market new products faster and service our customers better,” Ross said of working with Stonemont Financial Group and Clayco as well as the state of Alabama, the city and county of Mobile, and the Mobile Airport Authority.

The 250,000-square-foot facility will house Continental’s engine and parts manufacturing systems as well as corporate offices. Continental said the building should be complete by the fall of 2018.
