Garmin avionics connect with FltPlan.com

FltPlan.com users who fly with Garmin avionics can download flight plans wirelessly, the companies announced March 6, pointing to a "strategic relationship" between the avionics giant and the flight planning software pioneer.

Using the FltPlan Go app, pilots can file flight plans on mobile devices, then download them directly to Garmin panel-mount avionics via Garmin Connext. The centerpiece of Connext is the ability for pilots to wirelessly connect various devices to panel-mount avionics that facilitate information swapping.

The system is designed for iOS and Android devices, but it can also be used on a desktop computer or mobile device via the FltPlan.com interface.

Garmin panel-mount avionics including the GTN 650/750, G1000 NXi, and GNS 430W/530W can receive wireless downloads via Connext. The FltPlan Go app also allows flight plan transfers with the Garmin Pilot app.

“We believe that this integration will streamline the flight planning process for our users while ensuring that they have the best possible information at their fingertips,” said Ken Wilson, president of FltPlan.com.

FltPlan Go is available on iOS devices now, and Android compatibility is in development.
