I Hart Flying exceeds scholarship goal

What do you do when your flight training scholarship fundraising efforts exceed your goals? You deliver multiple awards designed to boost the pilot population, especially among young women.

A three-day I Hart Flying Foundation fundraising challenge resulted in donations surpassing $40,000, well over the $25,000 goal. The windfall allowed pilot and founder Rachelle Spector to award five scholarships to female pilots instead of just one as originally intended.

She said word spread about the Eagles Soar, Harts Explore effort via YouTube and other social media. The response exceeded her expectations, and she was ecstatic about the results.

“By breaking down silos and working together as a team with like-minded organizations, we far surpassed our expectations and could not be happier!” she noted in a news release announcing the awards.

Rachel Scarbrough will receive a $5,000 flight training award, a Bose A-20 headset, a King Schools flight training bundle, and other pilot goodies. Martina Riggin, Chiara Sabatini, Lisa Pickrell, and Ella King will each receive $2,500 to jump-start their aviation training.

In 2010, Spector earned a scholarship that allowed her to pursue an aviation career, and she believes in the idea of paying it forward. She has made sharing the passion of aviation with others—especially young women—her mission and established the foundation in 2017 to help achieve those goals.
