How to help with Hurricane Dorian relief efforts

Relief organizations are mobilizing to help the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian devastated the island chain.

Natural disasters often spawn scams. Before you donate to an unfamiliar organization, check the Charity Navigator website to verify the given organization is legitimate. Although many relief organizations are preparing food and supply drives, monetary donations to groups with a long history of humanitarian relief in disaster zones, such as the American Red Cross, are often the most effective.
