Win money with Wings

Are you an FAA Wings pilot? You may be eligible to enter to win money from the Wings Industry Advisory Committee (WIAC).

The Paul and Fran Burger 2020 $10,000 WINGS Sweepstakes awards cash prizes to pilots who prove completion of FAA Wings Pilot Proficiency program credits. The sweepstakes was created by the WIAC, which is a volunteer coalition of industry experts, experienced pilots, flight instructors, and professionals dedicated to general aviation safety. The WIAC’s primary mission is to support and increase awareness of and participation in the FAA Wings program. Paul Burger, the chairman of the WIAC, is a 2,500-hour airline transport pilot who has long been an advocate of aviation safety.

The FAA Wings Pilot Proficiency program, which began in 1996 and is set to be revamped, is designed to help reduce the number of GA accidents by improving pilots’ skills and knowledge. Beyond increasing pilot proficiency, completion of Wings-approved material can lead to lowered insurance rates, CFI certificate renewal, and completion of the ground portion of a flight review.

The sweepstakes was developed in 2017, and initially was limited to CFIs who belong to the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators and the National Association of Flight Instructors. Since 2019, the sweepstakes has been open to all pilots and CFIs who participate in the FAA Wings program. Pilots have until December 31 to complete a phase of Wings credit and enter, and winners will be drawn and announced on January 15.

The AOPA Air Safety Institute is second only to the FAA in providing free Wings-accredited safety education. Explore the institute’s content to earn Wings credit.
