AOPA Flight Training Excellence Awards

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of this poll?

The purpose of the Flight Training Excellence Poll is for students and former students who have received flight training within the last year to share information about their experience. Information gathered from the poll will give us a snapshot of today’s flight training environment while also recognizing flight training providers who create an excellent experience through the Flight Training Excellence Awards.

How do I submit a nomination for my favorite flight school to win an award?

Results from the Flight Training Excellence Poll will be used to name the winners of the 2015 Flight Training Excellence Awards.

Are you just looking at the total number of nominations? Will only large flight schools or instructors at large flight school win an award?

The purpose of the Flight Training Excellence Awards are to highlight those flight schools and instructors that help create an optimal flight training experience, no matter the size or number of students they have. The poll scores for the Outstanding Flight School, Outstanding Flight Instructor, Best Flight School and Best Flight Instructor awards will be averaged.

I am a flight instructor; can I complete the poll about myself?

No, a flight instructor or flight school cannot complete the poll on their own behalf.

How many awards are you giving out?

The title of Outstanding Flight School and Outstanding Flight Instructor will be awarded to those flight training providers that score in the top 20 percent for their category.  The final determination will be based on the results of a selection board that will analyze both the objective and subjective poll responses submitted on their behalf.  The board uses a process that keeps the identities of all eligible schools anonymous while the selections are being determined.  To be eligible for an award, a flight school or flight instructor must have had at least 5 polls submitted on their behalf.

Who can I email if I have additional questions?

Email the AOPA Flight Training Initiative team at [email protected]. We welcome additional questions and we will add commonly asked questions to this page throughout the time that the poll remains open.
