AOPA Call to Action - Support S. 1847 General Aviation Airport Access Act
SUPPORT GENERAL AVIATION AIRPORT ACCESS ACT
IN THE FAA REAUTHORIZATION BILL
Take action now by sending the letter below to your U.S. Senators and U.S. House Representative, urging them to include the General Aviation Airport Access Act in this year’s FAA Reauthorization bill.
All too often, many transient pilots may park at an airport without needing or requiring services of an FBO. So, it is no surprise pilots are outraged when presented with a bill, in the hundreds if not thousands of dollars, for services they didn’t ask for or use.
Recently, a pilot flew his single engine turboprop-powered aircraft between two GA airports in Florida for lunch – about a twenty-minute flight. The pilot was directed to park at the only FBO on the airport, and after a one-hour visit, he was presented with parking and security fees totaling $280.00.
Another example involves a flight instructor and a student pilot who landed at an airport for 10 minutes so the student could use the restroom – the pilot was charged $80. There are thousands upon thousands of examples like these, and it is an unfair and unreasonable practice, especially at an airport that receives federal funds and is supposed to be open to the public.
Paying a parking fee that is fair and reasonable is acceptable, but being required to pay for something one never asked for, wanted, or used is not right and should not be acceptable.
