Enjoy a full day of aviation fun! Make new friends, meet key AOPA leaders, learn new skills in seminars, shop for aviation products, and have two great meals. From 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., the AOPA Fly-In will be an exciting day filled with fun, friends, food, and flying!
We apologize that our Pancake Breakfast has sold out. We hope you will still join us for a day of fun and lunch!
AOPA President Mark Baker and other key leaders will talk about the latest issues facing general aviation and take questions from you at the Pilot Town Hall and throughout the day. Ask critical questions about GA, meet leading AOPA staff, and mingle with fellow pilots.
All AOPA members, their spouses and children, will receive a free lunch. It’s AOPA’s way to say “thank you” for your membership. For all non-members, lunch will be $10. Or, join AOPA today or on-site so you and your family can eat for free! Please RSVP now so we can prepare enough food.
*Disclaimer: Please note that to accommodate the anticipated crowds, our food choices will be set. We are sorry that we will not be able to accommodate special dietary needs.
Look for some of aviation’s greatest communicators to share about safety, technology, aircraft maintenance, and interesting flying activities.
Bruce Landsberg “Say Again? Radio Communication Done Right”– Main stage
Stymied by radio chatter every time you fly? Does everybody else get "cleared direct" and you don't? The Air Safety Institute digs deeper into radio communication in this information-packed seminar. Find out how to increase your margin of safety through effective communication with ATC. Don't miss this informative safety seminar designed to improve your communication skills and decrease your workload as a pilot.
John Zimmerman “Flying With the iPad” – Second Venue
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced pro, this fast-paced seminar will offer real world tips for using the iPad in the cockpit. Learn about iPad basics, new apps, ADS-B receivers, power user tips and the pre-flight checklist every iPad pilot should use.
"My Go Flight" EFB Challenge - Third Venue
Bring your iPad charged, apps loaded, and data updated. Follow along with the session leader as real-world scenarios are used to demonstrate what proficiency looks like. Test your own skills. Prizes will be given to those answering questions correctly. This is a fun way to learn and win! Want to compete in the EFB Challenge? Four contestants will be selected to compete to see who is the best of the best in San Marcos and the winners will win prizes and have the opportunity to compete in future regional and national events. To register in advance to compete, go to www.mygoflight.com/EFBChallenge and click on the entry email button.
Rod Machado “Yoke and Pedal: The Lost Art of Flying an Airplane”– Main stage
Is it proper to use two hands to flare an airplane? Should you crab or sideslip during a crosswind landing? Are you approaching too fast or too slow? When should you raise your gear after takeoff? Should you always land on the numbers? Do you need to use the inclinometer to fly coordinated? What's the most important thing you need to do to avoid stalling an airplane on final approach? If you'd like answers to these and other flying technique questions, then attend Thursday’s to laugh and learn with Rod Machado.
Adrian Eichhorn “Pass Me the Wrench: Owner-Performed Maintenance – Second Venue Aircraft owners don't need to be certificated mechanics to perform many regular maintenance tasks. Spare time, the right manuals, and a few basic tools are more than enough. Be sure to check out this interactive session for the inside scoop on owner-performed preventive maintenance, the regs, and how you can save money.
