Aug. 2 - For the first time in many months, the Sweepstakes Bonanza sat for 10 days without being upgraded and worked on during the EAA AirVenture 2001 in Oshkosh.
Continually surrounded by groups of AOPA members jostling for a better look, the eye-catching, freshly painted airplane blew away everyone.
As soon as the event ended, AOPA Pilot Editor at Large Tom Horne again took the controls and flew N2001B to Air Mod, the interior shop in Batavia, Ohio. For the next five weeks, Dennis and Cynthia Wolter and their talented crew will install a noise-dampening kit and a new leather interior.
Air Mod, a shop that specializes in fine Bonanza interiors, developed the sound suppression kit in conjunction with Skandia Inc. of Davis Junction, Illinois.
A new FAA policy on obstructive sleep apnea that addresses many of the concerns raised by AOPA is scheduled to take effect March 2.
AOPA and the National Business Aviation Association have jointly filed an amicus, or friend of the court, brief in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals as part of the ongoing legal battle over the future of Santa Monica Municipal Airport.
Fourteen aviation organizations have banded together to urge the FAA to take immediate steps to lower barriers to ADS-B equipage.
