Sept. 13 - The interior is done, all the little details have been taken care of, and the paper covering the windows has been removed. The Sweepstakes Bonanza is ready to fly over Ohio and Kentucky with the new interior once the flight restriction from the terror attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C., is lifted.
In addition to the creation of a custom all-leather interior and the installation of a cabin noise reduction kit, Air Mod employees, and yours truly, AOPA Associate Editor Steve Ells, did light maintenance and installed upgrades.
One example of Air Mod's attention to detail was shown in the floorboard rework. During the initial inspection it was discovered that two of the cabin floorboards were cracked and damaged. Installing another thin plywood floor piece would have been sufficient, but Air Mod owner Dennis Wolter insisted on reinforcing the new floorboard by bonding it to a thin layer of aluminum sheet. Air Mod's attention to detail even applies to parts the owner may never see.
After the aerial photo shoot, N2001B will be flown to the Meggitt/S-Tec facility in Mineral Wells, Texas, for certification of the electronic flight information system (EFIS) and autopilot.
As the cold weather chills AOPA’s Headquarters in Frederick, many of us are inside generating new resources for flying clubs.
In my house, every Friday night is “Movie Night.” While the movies are rarely educational (I don’t think I learned anything from the Lego Movie), we look forward to the weekly opportunity to spend time together. Why not use the same concept for your Flying Club (with the addition of education, of course)?
AOPA Flying Club Manager Kelby Ferwerda posted the following on the AOPA Flying Club Facebook Page: “Recently I’ve talked with quite a few Flying Clubs about maintaining social activity through the cold winter months. Some clubs host Holliday Parties, others have Potluck Movie Nights. What does your club do to keep members involved during the chilly months?”
