Sept. 3 Patti Bennett is the latest AOPA member to win a flight in a Waco as part of AOPA's two-year Centennial of Flight Waco Sweepstakes. She and her husband, Dan, traveled to Long Beach, California, for a ride in a Waco similar to the one currently being restored for the AOPA sweepstakes.
Monthly sweepstakes winners get much more than just a "discovery flight" in a Waco. They receive a full checkout in a Waco cockpit, several hours one-on-one with a flight instructor, as well as flight instruction in a biplane. Because the Waco lacked the range of adjustment to safely accommodate her petite size, Bennett received her instruction in a Stearman.
AOPA members and potential members are automatically entered in the Centennial of Flight Sweepstakes when they join AOPA or renew their membership. There are additional ways to increase your chance of winning. Check out the sweepstakes rules on AOPA Online.
For pilots, the 60,000-plus-member Civil Air Patrol readily comes to mind when an aerial role in a rescue is launched.
AOPA is asking the FAA to withdraw a proposed airworthiness directive that could affect thousands of ECi cylinders.
