Sweeps Commander gets its new paint, interior
By Steven W. Ells

The 2.4-hour flight from Howard Aviation in California to the home of Master Aircraft Painters in Wickenburg, Arizona, went perfectly last week - the air was smooth, skies were CAVU, and all the new avionics, including the Chelton FlightLogic flight displays, quietly took care of business without a hiccup. The factory rebuilt Lycoming engine and Hartzell propeller, cushioned by a fresh set of Barry vibration isolators, ran smooth and strong.

In the few days the airplane has been at the paint shop, every bit of the old paint has been stripped off the airframe, and the repaint process is proceeding at a rapid pace. The interior team, Raul and Anna Colima, is equally hard at work creating a new leather interior.

The reason such frenetic activity?

In a little less than a month, AOPA members may catch a glimpse of the 2005 AOPA Commander Countdown airplane as it tracks eastward across the United States to Lakeland, Florida, to be part of AOPA's week-long exhibit at the Sun 'n Fun Fly-In, the first major airshow/trade show of the year.

If you're not able make it to Lakeland, stay abreast of the Commander Countdown progress on AOPA Online - one lucky AOPA member will be the new owner of N112WN in early 2006.

See a 1.5-minute video of the upgrade work that was done in California.
