AOPA finds no data supporting Lycoming connecting rod AD
While the FAA has proposed a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Lycoming 360- and 540-series engines with ECi connecting rods installed, AOPA can't find data to support the AD.
"There are no accidents in the database attributable to a flaw in these connecting rods," said Luis Gutierrez, AOPA director of regulatory and certification policy. "What evidence there is suggests engine failures due to oil starvation."
AOPA will comment against the proposal before the December 5 deadline. The FAA estimates about 2,800 Lycoming engines would be affected by the AD. AOPA encourages affected members to review information on ECi's Web site and submit their own comments to the FAA.
