AOPA petitions FAA to move waypoint outside D.C. ADIZ
The FEDIT intersection near Frederick Municipal Airport in Frederick, Md., used to be located outside the Washington, D.C., Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). When the ADIZ changed from its Mickey Mouse shape last year to a smaller 30-nautical-mile radius, it moved closer to Frederick and encompassed the waypoint. AOPA has requested that the FEDIT waypoint be moved outside the ADIZ and that the FAA depict the ADIZ on charts with instrument approaches that go into or near the airspace. The FAA has agreed to depict the ADIZ on instrument charts beginning with the April 10 charting cycle. See AOPA Online for the full story and a list of affected instrument charts.
