A fatal crash of a helicopter from the Beijing City Police Department’s newly formed airborne unit has led to the postponement of AOPA China’s scheduled helicopter fly-in, AOPA China announced.

Chinese media reported that accident, which killed four of the five on board, occurred on the return trip after search and rescue training. AOPA China said it “draws attention and safety concerns from the public and the authorities,” and the investigation puts the accessibility of that airspace in question. The fly-in had been scheduled for Sept. 22 to 24 to coincide with the organization’s first general aviation Summit, which will proceed as scheduled.

China has amped up efforts recently to expand its GA industry, opening up low-altitude airspace for GA operations and investing in infrastructure. The fly-in had been scheduled to include 20 privately owned and operated helicopters.
