The redesign of Class B airspace at Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, could be an opportunity for the FAA to offer general aviation more options for transiting and navigating the airspace, AOPA said. Members are encouraged to study and comment by March 25 on the Class B redesign proposal, which would greatly expand and lower the Class B airspace.
The design also could be simplified and made less prone to airspace incursions by making the floor altitudes of Class B airspace sectors more uniform, AOPA said in formal comments submitted March 11.
The proposal “compresses an already confined airspace area” over Addison Airport, wrote Melissa McCaffrey, AOPA senior government analyst for air traffic services. The FAA has stated its intention to consider amending the Class D ceiling over Addison in a separate airspace action, which has not yet been initiated.
“AOPA would urge the FAA to examine and address this issue prior to implementation of any airspace changes,” McCaffrey wrote.
