THE AOPA FOUNDATION’S 2016 LEARN AND EARN SWEEPSTAKES OFFICIAL RULES

  1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE OR DONATION WILL NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. SUBJECT TO ALL FEDERAL, STATE & LOCAL LAWS.
  2. Duration: The AOPA Foundation’s 2016 Learn and Earn Sweepstakes (“Sweepstakes”) begins at 12:00 AM ET on 10/1/2016 and ends at 11:59 PM ET on 12/31/2016.
  3. Eligibility: Open only to legal residents of the 50 United States and District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, eighteen (18) years of age or older as of the date of entry. The Sweepstakes is not open to employees of AOPA or The AOPA Foundation, Inc. (“AFI”), their subsidiaries and affiliated companies, or the advertising and promotion agencies of each. Any person in the immediate family of an employee (including the spouse, children, parents, brothers and sisters of any employee) and those living in the same household of any such employee, whether related or not, is also not eligible to win. 
  4. Prizes: The grand prize is a Garmin GDL 39 ADS-B receiver for iPad. One grand prize will be awarded. The approximate retail value (“ARV”) of the grand prize is $600.00.
  5. How to Enter: Enter as often as you wish.  An entrant must complete an AFI online course, accident case study, or real pilot story found at www.airsafetyinstitute.org. One entry is awarded for each completed course, accident case study or real pilot story during the time period specified in para 2. Entries will be tracked by AFI.
  6. Winner Selection: At approximately 1 P.M. on January 2, 2017, an employee or agent of AFI will select or cause to be selected by random drawing from valid entries received one (1) grand prize winner. Winner need not be present to win and will be notified by mail and/or email and posted on www.aopa.org. AFI will ship at its expense the grand prize to the winner upon verification of his/her eligibility. If a potential winner declines to accept the prize, or prize notification cannot be accomplished within thirty (30) days from the first notification attempt, the potential winner will be disqualified and AFI will select an alternate winner. If any winner is a minor in his or her state of residence, the prize may be awarded to the minor’s parent or legal guardian, and the winner’s parent or legal guardian must agree to these Official Rules, consent to the award of the prize and sign all required affidavits, consents and releases.
  7. Publicity Release: Winners agree to be photographed by and have their names and likenesses used by AFI and prize providers for the purposes of promoting the Sweepstakes, AFI and prize providers. Winner is solely responsible for any taxes that may be payable as a result of their winning. 
  8. Limited liability. All participants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of AFI and its employees, whose decisions regarding the Sweepstakes shall be final. All prizes are awarded without any warranties, expressed or implied, and AFI disclaims all such warranties. Winner agrees to hold harmless the officers, directors and employees of AFI, from any and all injuries or damages arising out of the use of the prizes. Any warranty regarding any of the prizes is limited to the warranty and guarantee that may be assigned by the manufacturers.
  9. Dispute Resolution: Participants agree that: (a) any disputes arising out of or in connection with this Sweepstakes, or any prizes awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; (b) any judicial proceeding shall take place in a federal or state court within the State of Maryland; (c) damages shall be limited to direct, out-of-pocket damages and shall not include attorneys’ fees; and (d) all issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the state of Maryland without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules that would cause the application of the laws of any other jurisdiction.
