Event Spotlight

Bowman Field Flying Club Fly-In

Bowman Field Flying Club
Bowman Field Flying Club is a little unusual. It doesn’t operate a single airplane. But it does operate the airport—a 2,200-foot grass strip in central Maine. On August 24 and 25, the club will host its 27th annual fly-in to raise money to keep Bowman Field (B10) open. There will be plane rides, camping on the field, a live band, a yard sale, and a candy drop over the runway. Field Manager Ken Lyman shares the history of this unique club and how the fly-in keeps the field going.

Take the Fall Weather Challenge

The Air Safety Institute (ASI) is hitting the road this fall bringing its “Weather Challenge” fall seminar to a city near you. “Weather Challenge” aims at bolstering your real-world weather wisdom—while having a little fun, too. You’ll have the opportunity to put your knowledge to the test from METAR/TAF decoding to real-world weather scenarios. Along the way you’ll learn about important weather resources and the promise (and pitfalls) of cockpit weather. The seminars will be held in more than 100 cities beginning on September 9.
