Director of PhilanthropyDirector of Philanthropy

The Director of Philanthropy will report to the Vice President of Philanthropy and is primarily responsible for expanding the AOPA Foundation’s reach through donor, corporate and foundation relationship development.  This is accomplished through networking, managing donor events, stewarding and recognizing donors.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Office of the President to capitalize on any existing large events such as Regional Events, Air Venture and Sun n Fun to assist in building and sustaining current donor relationships and attracting new donors. 
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the Office of the President’s to identify possible fundraising and donor events to be built around the scheduled travel itinerary for the AOPA President. 
  • Work in close collaboration with the Director of Foundation Communications to establish protocols, schedules and materials to support a high level of communication to ensure donors are appropriately thanked, recognized and informed.
  • Work closely with the Foundation’s database management team to ensure consistent communication and recognition of donors and prospects.
  • When necessary, the position will require some travel to fundraising events as well as some travel for donor meetings usually accompanying a member of the primary fundraising team. 


The Foundation seeks a candidate who is well versed in all aspects of market research, database management, interactive marketing, negotiating, event planning, and client relations. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate examples of collaboration and team building in previous positions as well as the ability to interact with the Office of the President on event planning and special fundraising activities involving the AOPA President. As the Director, the Foundation will expect the individual to be a self-starter who is energetic, dynamic, and creative. He/she will also possess market analysis acumen.  Bachelor’s degree with at least six to eight years of fundraising or directly transferable experience.
