Ohio governor signs bill to expand aviation tax exemption

Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has signed a budget measure that expands the state’s aviation sales tax exemption to include repairs and parts for general aviation aircraft.

AOPA President Phil Boyer had written to the governor asking for his support for the measure, which Strickland signed into law on June 24.

“This measure will help keep the cost of flying down for pilots and aircraft owners in Ohio, and it makes good economic sense for the entire state,” said Boyer. “Gov. Strickland has shown that he is listening to pilots and aircraft owners, and that he understands making flying more affordable can stimulate economic activity, and that’s good for everyone.”

Some types of aircraft sales already were exempt from the state tax, although the majority of aircraft sales are taxed.
