Zeppelin Flying to California - World's Largest Airship heads to S.F. Bay Area

The largest airship in the worldAirship Ventures Zeppelin, the largest airship in the world, is flying from Texas to its permanent home in California at Silicon Valley’s Moffett Field.

The airship is scheduled to arrive on Oct. 25 and will go into passenger service giving scenic rides over the San Francisco Bay area, Napa Valley and Monterey. Airship Ventures plans to begin offering rides starting at $495 a person starting in November.

The 12-passenger, 246-foot Zeppelin is one of three airships of its kind in the world and the only one in the United States. The airship was built in Germany and transported to Texas on a container ship.

Unlike the Zeppelins of the early twentieth century that were filled with flammable hydrogen, the new aircraft carries helium, an inert gas used in blimps.
