MT composite prop now available on Cessnas
Flight Resource announced this week it had gained supplemental type certificate (STC) approval for the installation of a composite MT propeller on numerous models of Cessna aircraft. The approved model list includes most airplanes from the Cessna 180 through the Cessna 210. Aircraft with most STC-modified engines are also included.
MT propellers are built in Germany but sold and maintained by 24 shops around the United States, of which Flight Resource is the largest dealer. The propeller features a stainless steel edge, has no life limits, and offers options such as electric or fluid de-ice.
According to Flight Resource, MT propellers offer a number of advantages over standard steel propellers, including less vibration and weight, better climb and cruise performance, and no airworthiness directives. Weight savings vary by model, but the Cessna 182 composite propeller is 14 pounds lighter than the standard propeller, according to Flight Resource.
STC kits start at $10,450 for a two-blade model and $12,250 for a three-blade model. Each includes a new Kevlar spinner.
