Bombardier gets WAAS for Lear 40s, 45s
Universal Avionics Systems Corporation has secured a supplemental type certificate (STC) allowing in-service Learjet 40, Learjet 40XR, Learjet 45, and Learjet 45XR airplanes to be fitted out with WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) capability. New aircraft can order WAAS as an option.
WAAS, which uses corrected GPS signals to allow more precise vertical and lateral navigation, permits aircraft to fly RNAV approaches with vertical guidance similar to that offered by ILS approaches. Additionally, with a total of 1,390 new WAAS approaches in North America, pilots and operators of WAAS-equipped airplanes can fly approaches to many airports not previously served by instrument approaches, and fly them more accurately and to lower ceiling and visibility minimums.
The WAAS retrofit can be installed at all Bombardier Aerospace Service Centers.
