WomenVenture airshow returns to AirVenture
It will feature a first for the weeklong fly-in—an all-female airshow set for July 31. Scheduled performers include Melissa Andrejewski, Julie Clark, Chandy Clanton, Susan Dacy, Debbie Gary, Jill Long, Misty Blues, Debby Rihn-Harvey, Teresa Stokes, and Patty Wagstaff. Suzanne Oliver will be doing skywriting, and Connie Bowlin will fly a P-51 Mustang during the Warbirds segment.
“We’re delighted that WomenVenture was not a one-time-only event and that our partnership with EAA to celebrate women’s accomplishments in aviation, while attracting new women pilots and enthusiasts, continues for a second year,” WAI President Peggy Chabrian said May 11.
The week will include a Theater in the Woods program on July 31, featuring NASA Space Shuttle Commander Eileen Collins; U.S. Air Force Maj. Jill Long, who has flown more than 50 combat missions; and Jessica Cox, an inspirational speaker who obtained a sport pilot certificate. Cox, who was born without arms, flies an Ercoupe using her feet.
The first WomenVenture took place at AirVenture 2008 and featured a group photograph of hundreds of female aviators in pink T-shirts. WAI plans to take another group photograph in AeroShell Square. Distribution of the free T-shirts will begin on Monday, July 27, at the AirVenture Welcome Center. T-shirts also will be available at the WAI Celebrity Breakfast on July 31 at 8 a.m. and at the WAI’s booth (B2041).
