Hawker Beechcraft’s 2009 layoffs top 2,600

Since February, Hawker Beechcraft has notified the Kansas state government of pending layoffs, which now total 2,662 workers, 10 times. The most recent round, of 118 workers, was posted Aug. 31.

Those layoffs were preceded by 395 layoffs posted on Aug. 21, originally reported in local media as 300 workers, according to layoff “warnings” filed and available on Kansasworks.com.

The largest round of layoffs included 1,500 workers, posted on Feb. 6. Another 264 layoffs were posted the same day. The company also disclosed warning lists for 120 jobs in May; 80 in June; 155 in July; and 543 in August, counting the 395 layoffs.

Companies file Worker Retraining and Adjustment warnings several days prior to a layoff, referred to as “warn listings.” On two occasions, the company posted two layoff notices on the same day because there were two categories of workers laid off.
