AOPA Air Safety Foundation

Welcome

A message from Executive Director Bruce Landsberg

Fellow Pilots:

Bruce Landsberg

Welcome to the AOPA Air Safety Foundation (ASF). ASF is a nonprofit pilot education and safety organization that serves all pilots—not just AOPA members—by providing free or low-cost education programs to pilots and flight instructors nationwide, analyzing safety data, and conducting safety research.

Online: As you will see below, ASF is a very active organization. Try our online Interactive Courses, which qualify for AOPA Accident Forgiveness and the ground portion of the FAA WINGS program. Learn about using GPS for VFR Operations and GPS for IFR Operations, and learn how to get and give pilot reports with the SkySpotter: Pireps Made Easy course. Through special industry grants, ASF also mailed CD and DVD versions of interactive courses to over 200,000 pilots' homes. Check out the Real Pilot Stories series to hear the pilots' detailed accounts of what went wrong and, more importantly, what they learned. These programs are all part of a rapidly growing online safety center.

Seminars: Last year, ASF presented more than 240 free safety seminars that reached more than 39,000 pilots. Topics included aeronautical decision making, emergency procedures, and radio communication, to name just a few.

Flight Instructors: ASF renews more flight instructor certificates than any other course provider. Flight instructors can renew their certificates by taking a high energy, two-day, in-person refresher clinic, or by taking a self-paced online course.

Leadership: ASF influences the decision-making processes within the FAA, NTSB, The National Weather Service, and the GA industry by providing common sense suggestions based on decades of experience and tens of thousands of flight hours. During 2007, our emphasis continues to be on weather education and pilot decision making.

Funding: Individual pilots can make tax-deductible charitable contributions in support of the foundation's safety programs and products. Any and all donations are welcome to help us spread the safety message, and we are pleased to recognize many giving levels. You can even become a life member in AOPA while helping ASF through our AOPA Life Member program.

With your help, we can and will make a difference to the general aviation community's safety record. If you have any questions concerning ASF, our programs, or our funding, please e-mail us or call 1-800-638-3101.

Safe flights,

Bruce Landsberg
Executive Director
