Bay area media get a dose of GA
Helping the nonflying public understand the value of general aviation is a key priority for AOPA, and Expo gives the organization a prime opportunity to do just that.
With thousands of pilots attending AOPA Expo in San Jose, Calif., and a record number of exhibits and airplanes on display, two local television stations accepted AOPA’s offer to come out to the aircraft display to get a flavor of what GA has to offer.

KTVU, the local Fox station, and KNTV, the NBC station, each did live segments that showed their audiences the wide array of GA aircraft. AOPA Media Relations Director Chris Dancy explained how flying light aircraft is fun and functional, and how much easier it is to learn to fly than most people think. He also told the audiences about LetsGoFlying.com—AOPA’s resource center for anyone who is interested in learning to fly—and the free Let’s Go Flying information sessions being held for nonpilots at Expo.
“Helping the nonflying public understand general aviation is key to its future,” said Karen Gebhart, AOPA executive vice president of communications. “There’s so much to see at Expo that it’s a great place to reach out to anyone who’s ever wanted to learn more about flying--and there’s no better way than through local news.”
