Pilots' views on tracon consolidations vital

DFW TraconPilots will get a say in future proposals to consolidate tracons, the FAA said September 7 in response to AOPA's recommendations.

The FAA said that this fall it would begin hosting public meetings similar to AOPA President Phil Boyer's Pilot Town Meetings.

"Pilots perspectives are vital for the FAA to fully understand the impact a tracon consolidation could have on general aviation safety and operations," said Andy Cebula, AOPA executive vice president of government affairs.

The meetings will take place in areas where the agency is considering consolidating tracon facilities. Tracons provide radar separation for VFR and IFR aircraft in busy terminal areas. AOPA first requested the public meetings in April during the Palms Springs Tracon consolidation into the Southern California Tracon.
