TFR over NYC for New Year’s Eve
The FAA has issued a temporary flight restriction (TFR) banning general aviation flight over Manhattan Island on New Year’s Eve.
The TFR encompasses the island and extends from the surface up to 4,000 feet msl. It will be in effect from 7 p.m. local on Monday, Dec. 31, until 2 a.m. local on Tuesday, Jan. 1. The Hudson River Corridor will remain open, and the TFR will not close any landing facilities.
“This TFR is less burdensome than the restrictions we have seen in the past for the New Year’s Eve event,” said Heidi Williams, AOPA director of air traffic services. “AOPA has fought overly restrictive TFRs since 2001, and we’re pleased that the FAA only restricted flight over the island instead of a 30-nautical-mile radius as they have done in the past.”
