Insurance firm doubles hurricane relocation coverage

Aviation insurer AIG Aviation has announced that, effective immediately, it will increase the amount of its hurricane relocation coverage, from $500 to $1,000, for qualifying policyholders.

“We commend AIG Aviation not only for improving this important coverage, but for extending the benefit to all current policyholders—not just new business,” said Greg Sterling, AOPA executive vice president of non-dues revenue.

The decision to increase coverage was made in recognition of the increased cost of fuel and other expenses owners face.

“We understand that our policyholders’ cost of protecting their aircraft have gone up; therefore, increasing this protective coverage was simply the right thing to do,” said Will Lovett, president of AIG Aviation, North America.

As part of most AIG Aviation light aircraft insurance policies, hurricane relocation coverage helps owners offset the cost of relocating their aircraft out of an area under the threat of a hurricane.
