PIC experts understand ownership firsthand
Got a question about aircraft ownership? Get answers from an aircraft owner.
If Rodney Martz happens to take your call to the AOPA Pilot Information Center (800/USA-AOPA), you’ll be talking to someone who has lots of firsthand experience owning aircraft. In fact, Martz has owned one or more aircraft continuously since 1974. Today he owns four airplanes—a Bonanza, two Cessnas, and a Grumman. So if you’ve got a question about aircraft ownership, this 18-year AOPA employee has an answer.
“Helping a new buyer or aircraft owner is the most rewarding part of my job,” said Rodney, who recently helped one aircraft owner save tens of thousands of dollars on his tax bill.
And he’s not the only member to enjoy the benefits of working with Rodney. One member wrote to AOPA recently to thank Rodney for his help in gaining community support for the member’s plan to build a personal airstrip.
“I read about how AOPA helps pilots as a group, but to see the kind of effort you put into helping me as an individual is amazing,” the member wrote.
When Rodney isn’t solving member problems, he is flying or taking care of his airplanes. He is a private pilot with 37 years experience and about 2,000 flight hours in some 20 different models. He even has experience as an aircraft mechanic’s assistant.
So what really motivates him to come to work in the morning?
“There’s a new aviation problem to tackle every day,” he says. “Besides, who wouldn’t want to come to an office that’s just 2,000 feet from their hangar!”
