The Board of Trustees for AOPA on Sept. 11 elected two new members to the Board: AOPA President Craig Fuller and James G. “Jay” Tuthill III, chairman and CEO of the Tuthill Corporation. The vote took place during the Board‘s annual meeting at AOPA’s headquarters located on the grounds of Frederick Municipal Airport in Frederick, Md.

“In the eight months since Craig took the controls at AOPA, he has urged the Board to take some bold steps,” said Board of Trustees Chairman Bill Trimble. “We look forward to his continued insight during our discussions.”

The Board’s action continues the tradition established with the previous two association presidents of having the person in day-to-day command of AOPA serve as a member of the Board of Trustees.

“Having the president sit as a member—but not the chair—ensures transparent oversight of the association and an unequivocal understanding by the Board of the operation of AOPA,” said Fuller. “The Board knows firsthand where the association is headed, and the association, in turn, knows directly the vision of the Board.”

Jay Tuthill is the fourth generation of his family to head the Tuthill Corporation, which his great-grandfather founded as an industrial pump company. It now manufactures a wide range of industrial products. Tuthill himself is an instrument-rated single- and multi-engine land private pilot, as well as a multi-engine sea pilot. He currently flies a TBM 700. He has been a member of AOPA since 1978.
