Digital edition iPad giveaway: We have a winner!

“You’re kidding!” That was Kevin Barnett’s reaction when AOPA called him a week ago to let him know that he’d won an iPad, which the association’s media division had on display at AOPA Aviation Summit in Long Beach, Calif., in November. “I remember you telling me I had to talk to you in order to win,” he said.

During Summit, AOPA introduced enhanced digital versions of AOPA Pilot and Flight Training magazines to Summit attendees. Whoever was curious enough to watch a demonstration of the new enhanced digital issues was eligible to win. Barnett’s entry was one of about 200 that Editor in Chief Thomas B. Haines drew out of the big bag of entries.

Barnett’s interest in aviation was kindled by his father, who took him flying as a kid. He never stopped dreaming about it and in 2008 he was able to buy a Cessna 172 on the East Coast. He and his dad flew it back to Simi Valley, Calif., where they live. Barnett, 39, finished his private pilot certificate earlier this year and is hoping to start working on his instrument rating soon. “For now I enjoy the wonder and gift of flight,” he said.

The enhanced digital editions of AOPA Pilot and Flight Training, which will feature videos, slideshows, interviews, and more, will be available with the February issue of Pilot and the March issue of Flight Training.
