AOPA Live evolves into powerful online video platform

With its first full year of live streaming broadcasts under its belt, AOPA Live has evolved into a powerful platform providing pilots with virtual access to aviation events and aircraft—anytime, anywhere. Pilots have watched thousands of hours of videos this year ranging from technique tips to news interviews to aircraft reviews.

AOPA Live brought Sun ‘n Fun Fly-In in Lakeland, Fla., EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., and AOPA Aviation Summit in Long Beach, Calif., right to pilots’ computers with real-time streaming video. Although the association did not stream live from the National Business Aviation Association Convention in Atlanta, AOPA Live was still on site to capture the action and make it available to pilots.

AOPA President Craig Fuller and AOPA Pilot editors interviewed leading industry officials during each of the events to give the aviation community a glimpse into the status of the industry and what new products might be on the horizon. During the NBAA annual convention, Cessna CEO Jack Pelton hinted that a new aircraft could be unveiled by the company in the upcoming year.

To improve the viewing experience, AOPA also redesigned the AOPA Live website, creating video categories and search functionality. AOPA also optimized the design to work on the iPad and added a Facebook chat function during AOPA Aviation Summit.

“Unfortunately I wasn't able to make the Summit due to the fact that I'm stationed at Camp Humphrey South Korea, but I have to say that I loved seeing some of the highlights. I've been up since like 2 a.m. this morning catching all the latest news,” one member wrote during the chat session at Summit.
