Insurance group supports pilot safety
The AOPA Insurance Agency is supporting the AOPA Foundation’s efforts to increase pilot safety by sponsoring the Air Safety Institute’s popular safety quizzes, Real Pilot Stories, and Webinars for the year.
“We feel these programs are important in the effort to educate and refresh pilots concerning safety issues,” AOPA Insurance Agency President Janet Bressler wrote to AOPA Foundation President Bruce Landsberg, announcing the $400,000 sponsorship.
Air Safety Institute online products are free to all pilots. Safety quizzes test knowledge areas including weather, aircraft maintenance, flight planning and operations, security, airspace, and more.
Real Pilot Stories are true accounts of goods flight gone bad—told by the pilots who really have “been there, done that.” The pilots share their harrowing tales in hopes of helping others become better pilots. The Air Safety Institute has produced 15 Real Pilot Stories so far, with a new one set to debut in April.
The Air Safety Institute started hosting Webinars in 2009 and has featured tips for avoiding midair collisions and runway incursions, performing cold weather operations, steering clear of thunderstorms, and perfecting takeoffs and landings.
“We are proud to support the Air Safety Institute in positively impacting aviation safety and the safety of our policyholders through this sponsorship,” Bressler said.
